Resources from Planning for Better Air Quality

On the 25th September the IAQM hosted a conference on planning and air quality and how planning could influence air quality for the better in the longer term.

This event was aimed to bring planners and air quality specialists together to share learning about how the two communities could share information and best practice to achieve better air quality and it did not disappoint. Over 60 people attended the meeting and the debate continued throughout the day and after the final presentation had concluded.

In the first session the air quality and planning landscape was explored and the IAQM was delighted to have Peter Ellis from the Department of Communities and Local Government talking about the newly-updated National Planning Practice Guidance website.

The afternoon session was given over to case studies from experts on how aspects of the planning system and air quality can affect one another and strategies for mitigating air quality effects.

The day served to reinforce the need for planners and air quality experts to interact early on during development and highlighted the importance of professional bodies in bringing the two communities together.
