In collaboration with five other organisations, the IES has responded to the Defra consultation Single use plastic: banning the distribution and/or sale of plastic straws, stirrers and plastic-stemmed cotton buds in England.

Our response supports the ban, but highlights a number of logistical problems that need to be addressed in its implementation. including collection of materials, material substitution, bioplastics and exemptions.
