IES launches new professional register for environmental technicians

We are excited to announce the launch of our new professional register, Registered Environmental Technician (REnvTech), open to IES members who satisfy the entry criteria and professional competences developed by the Society for the Environment.

The REnvTech award recognises the achievement, expertise and professional excellence of technicians working across the broad spectrum of environmental science. These technicians can be found wherever jobs are underpinned by the technical application and sound understanding of the environment, spanning the breadth of academia, industry, government, consultancy, and other public and private sectors.

Registration is open to all Affiliates, Associates or Full Members of the IES who possess a minimum of two years' full-time, relevant, work-based experience and are educated to at least a Level 3 qualification, as per the Qualifications and Credit Framework of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or have obtained an equivalent level of knowledge through professional practice.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they meet all of the four key competences:

  • Application of knowledge and understanding of the environment to further the aims of sustainability;
  • Actively support sustainable management of the environment;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Personal commitment to professional standards, recognising obligations to society, the profession and the environment.

Becoming a Registered Environmental Technician demonstrates a strong skillset and a commitment to life-long learning through Continual Professional Development (CPD). For employers, professionals and the public, this assures confidence that you possess a high level of expertise and exercise professionalism. In return, achieving REnvTech status enables you to enhance your career prospects, elevate your professional standing, access a wider network of environmental professionals and use post-nominal letters, whilst acting as a potential stepping stone to becoming Chartered.

Interested in achieving REnvTech status? Check out our REnvTech page where you can download an application form and our supplementary guidance.
