The Science Council are exploring the possibility of mapping Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) to Chartered Scientist (CSci), allowing those holding CEnv registration to apply for CSci registration through a shortened route. The IES are engaged in this project as a pilot partner, allowing existing CEnv's to apply for CSci using a modified application process. Due to changes in the Chartered Environmentalist standards, this will initially only apply to CEnv registrants who became CEnv after the last change of standards (2020).

Application process

If you are an existing CEnv with us and would like to apply for the CSci designation using the pilot shortened route application, please let Sally Hughes know.

If you are eligible, we will share the pilot application with you for you to complete. We are asking applicants to demonstrate competencies A1, A2, A3 and B2 of the CSci application. 

• A1: Demonstrate how you use knowledge, experience, skills and broader scientific understanding to optimise the application of existing and emerging science and technology.
• A2: Exercise sound judgement and understand principles of uncertainty in complex and unpredictable situations.
• A3: Demonstrate critical evaluation of relevant scientific information and concepts to propose solutions to problems.
• B2: Promote, implement and take responsibility for robust policies and protocols relating to health, safety and sustainability.

As this is a pilot scheme, we are encouraging applicants to provide us with feedback on the process. 

Application cost

The cost to apply for CSci through the shortened route for existing CEnv's is £84 to cover the license fee, assessment and administration fees.
