Artificial Intelligence in Impact Assessment: The State of the Art & The Art of the Possible

A birds eye view of a person with a laptop sitting on grass.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming ever increasingly integrated into our everyday lives. Its use within the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process presents both an opportunity as well as a risk if not used appropriately or within guidelines.

In this talk Peter Hurley and Preeyus Patel delved into what we mean by AI and a high level overview on large language models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and its limitations. After outlining AI's current capabilities, they shifted the focus onto where in the EIA process these tools can be of most use and how that aligns with current policy.
